Get to Know Milwaukee-Based Musician, Producer, and DJ “MKED”
How did you come by your stage name?
I was interested in connecting a personal and unique name for myself as an artist. I am from Milwaukee, Wi which is usually abbreviated down to MKE. My first name is Mike and my last name starts with a D. So I felt a great mashup of the two was MKED.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
There is a sense of magic in songs. You don’t need to meet me personally but as part of our human experience, we are able to connect to music. To me, that is a powerful thing that made me want to craft songs of my own that I hope will outlast me.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
My music style draws from a lot of sources; I have a huge appreciation for The 1975. Their most recent album draws from so many different eras and genres of music while still maintaining a pop sensibility throughout. I don’t think that every song needs to be a textbook pop song but can still maintain a catchy and appealing feel overall. This approach really appeals to me and I try to incorporate that into my songs.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
My love of all different genres and styles of music was something that drove me to make this project. I wanted to cross from EDM pop to 80’s style rock; all the while incorporating melodies of Weezer-inspired female vocals a la The Rentals.

A great example of this synergy in styles for me would be my first track ‘Wake The Dead’. In that track, I tried to incorporate a balance between a male and female vocal presence that drew from ‘Of Monsters and Men’ wrapped up inside of a pop-based EDM track. So, I feel that no matter the style of music- if it is done well- anyone can like it.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Work ethic to me is continuing on when there doesn’t seem to be options. Fortunately- despite there being a global pandemic there are so many ways to connect and make music that I was able to put together this initial release.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
All people are the same- only their habits differ.
What are your plans for the near future?
I am super excited to share this release with anyone I can and- hopefully- get to show it live.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Ambition, courage, energy and beer.
How can fans find you?
What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?
Keep going- there are more people out there like you. Connect and carry on!
