Exclusive Interview with Katago708
Katago708 is a German rapper from Zurich, Switzerland. His new album came out in January and he is here today for an Interview with Muzique Magazine.
How did you come by your stage name?
Katago708 is my artist name. It is made up of the following: my surname and my hometown. “is derived from my surname “Khatami”, and 708 are the last 3 digits of the postal code of my hometown. “Katago708”.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I released my first song in 2015. My music teacher had the idea we could make a song just for fun, so I went with it. I pretty quickly realized that making a song is much more fun for me than just playing the guitar.
After the first song, it just went on and I started doing my own music and songs at home on my computer. Since 2015, music is my passion and I always try to deliver a message within my songs. My latest album “Heartbroken” is probably the best example of this. It is all about my emotions.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I would say I really found my own music style over the years. But some role models for me are for example Reezy or Ufo361. they are both german rappers who inspire me a lot.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
I just went with my emotions. I didn’t have any concept. I had a difficult time and processed my emotions and feelings with music, so the result of this was my new album “Heartbroken”.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
I think it’s very difficult to really reach people with your music today. It’s all about money, fame, and so on. I think my biggest challenge is to reach people’s hearts with my music nowadays.
Regarding my work ethic, I would never create a song for profit or hype. That’s never my intention when I’m in the studio. I just let it go and if it happens to be a hit, then that’s cool of course, but for me, music was always about emotions and not getting on the charts.
What are your plans for the near future?
I want to reach more people with my music because I know that music can help you a lot in many different situations.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
Shout out to my brother Kev Wenzel! you believed in me when others didn’t and you always helped me out. And of course, my family, without whom this would never have been possible.
How can fans find you?
The best chance to reach me, text me on Instagram: https://instagram.com/Katago708
What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?
Always go with your emotions and thoughts. Don’t just go with the trend. Do what you like and what you can identify with.
