Exclusive TRUF Interview with Muzique Magazine

How did you come by your stage name?

I chose my stage name “TRUF” (truth) for a few reasons. One is because my style of music is all facts. I do not write anything false or make-believe in my music. I do not lie in my verses. Anything I say I’ve actually done or been a part of before. Most rappers lie in every song they make.

Secondly, I wanted a name that I would be proud of no matter how old I get. Some rappers choose their names based on their current Fame of mind, however, one day that name might not represent them or their brand anymore. I wanted a name that would stand the test of time.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I credit/have been Influenced by the legends of hip hop that came before me. 2pac, Eminem, Jayz, Nas, Big, Dmx, Snoop Dogg, and more. I also have a family of musicians that came before me ranging from pianist to singer-songwriters that had a great deal of influence on me.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

My current project that I’m working on is called “Undeniable”. Meaning I want the music, vibe, lyrics, and more to be completely Undeniable no matter what city or state the listener is from. I want all cultures and Races to be able to appreciate it whether they like hip hop or not.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

When it comes to work ethic my greatest challenge is knowing when to slow down and balance my time with music and the rest of my life responsibilities. Meaning I will get so involved with my music that I will neglect other priorities in my life.

My greatest attribute is that of the same nature. Meaning that I’m willing to sacrifice everything else for my music. I put in the time to be great at what I do even if it cost me a loss in other areas. I believe that some of the greats before had this same kinda mentality when it comes to work ethic.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

Yes, I feel like hip hop a very competitive industry, especially between Artists. If I don’t think I’m best who else will? I think most great upcoming artists need to think and need to feel like they are the best in order to have that confidence.

That same confidence will come out when the listeners hear the music. However, I am always looking to get better and be inspired by another great artist. I also learn things from my competition and put use to them in my own way.

What are your plans for the near future?

Some of My Plans in the near future are to put out new hot music back to back to back and show impeccable consistency. Build my fanbase up daily. Do shows on a weekly basis. Release at least one new music video once a month. Create a Nationwide buzz. Partner with a major record label to take my brand and music to the next level and more.

My suggestion for other artists is to work hard on their craft. Practice weekly if not daily. Put the time in. Study the greats. Be original. Be a student of the game.

Be willing to invest money into your music campaigns. Build a team to help you. Hire people that can teach you things. Network with others. Make friends in high places. Believe in yourself. Get professional marketing when you release new music. Have a plan.
