Interview With West Philly Hip-Hop Artist Aantdoe

Tell Us about yourself and your music.

I was born in raised in Philadelphia PA… West Philly (Da Bottom to be specific)… I’m an Army Vet that has always had a love for all types of music… I started out DJing in high-school and from there I starting writing rhymes… I like to call my style of music Grown Folks Rap… just because I feel like I have a different vibe/message than what you hear on the radio every other song… I feel like it’s more relatable to the older hip hop fan.

How would you describe your sounds?

I like to call my style of music Grown Folks Rap… just because I feel like I have a different vibe/message than what you hear on the radio every other song… I feel like it’s more relatable to the older hip hop fan.

Talk about the experience making your song/mixtape/project.

It’s been a journey… I’ve had a long relationship with Rap music… Since I was a Soldier first, I couldn’t put the time and effort in that I needed to be the artist I wanted to be… So now that I’m retired I can now fully focus on my art… I have over 20 completed songs with a bunch more in the works.

What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?

At present I’m mainly focused on the music trying to make the best songs I can… haven’t really been making myself available for shows… YET!!!

What has been your biggest highlight in your musical career?

I got to record a song in one of the Philadelphia International recording studios… The very place where Legendary artist like Patti LaBelle, Teddy Pendegrass and many others have recorded.

Name your ideal collaboration: Mainstream or Indie.

(Mainstream)J Cole…. Simply because I love his message… (Indie)there are far too many to name… I’d like my first project to feature a few up and coming artist like myself… I don’t want to be known as “oh he’s only hot because he has the song with such and such (mainstream artist)”…

Name something random that people do not know about.

I have 12 sisters… My mom has 2 girls… My dad the rest…

What is one thing you have learned or discovered while being on the music scene/industry?

It’s not a very welcoming experience… Not everyone wants to see you succeed so they discourage you… possibly because maybe they think your a threat to what they or their artist is trying to do??? And that you need to have THICK SKIN because not everyone is going to like your music….

What can we expect from you in the future?

Music!!! I’ll be around for a while… even if it’s behind the scenes… I’d love to write songs for other artist as well.

Anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Follow me @aantdoemusic on all social media platforms and soundcloud… I have 3 songs already out on all streaming platforms…
STAY TUNED… If you’re the hip hop fan that likes to hear rap that the artist actually took time to care about what they’re saying… Check me out!!!
