Vanessa Bejine Interview with Muzique Magazine
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I have been singing since I was five. I would sing at family gatherings, then went on to sing in school choirs and that lead me to talent showcases and open mics and I was soon connected with someone from Atlantic Records where I recorded my very first single Addicted. It has been a passion of mine since I can remember and it brought me so much joy as a little girl, I never wanted to stop.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I don’t know if there is a particular person or artist I would credit my music style to, but I can say I grew up on Whitney Houston, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey being some of my favorites.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
Ooh, I think “Holidays” has always been inside of me screaming to break out! I am a huge Christmas fanatic, so writing an original holiday song has always been a dream of mine, but in the past, I ran into life’s unexpected curve balls so often that it prevented me from creating one.
I finally got the opportunity this year and reached out to an incredible producer at Blessed Studios to create the track and she nailed it! I instantly started jotting down some of my favorite things at Christmas time, and within an hour Holidays was written.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
One of my greatest challenges in music is being vulnerable and open when writing or performing. I am such a private person, so writing about my own life experiences of hurt, pain, and struggles for the world to hear can often be a challenge, But breaking those barriers has become one of my greatest attributes in creating authentic heartfelt music that people can relate to.

Did you already have a vision and sound for “Holidays” before it was even created & did you know what you wanted it to be about?
Yes and no. Haha. I had an idea for what I wanted the track to sound like but it wasn’t fully layed out. I went over my thoughts with my producer, and the next day she sent me over what she had created for me based off of what I had told her. She completely surpassed all I had envisioned for it and I was beyond ecstatic to write to it.
Originally I was going to write about pumpkin egg nog and my love for it as a joke, but then the track started to give me warm feelings of Christmas time and all my favorite things during the holidays, so the lyrics were just flowing.
What are your plans for the near future?
I would like to finish this album and then go on tour. That has always been the goal. To travel the world sharing my music and having the crowds singing my songs.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shoutouts?
God. He is the inspiration behind all my music and the reason I keep going even when the going gets extremely tough.
How can fans find you?
Whichever platform works best for you; Spotify, iTunes, Pandora, Instagram, Amazon, Facebook, etc.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
I’ve said this before, and I will continue to say it…if it is something you can’t go a day without thinking about or doing, don’t give up on it.
Train your mind to be stronger than your feelings because you will have days when you aren’t as motivated or want to give up, don’t listen to your feelings. Listen to your mind and heart and take control. Your dreams could be closer than you think.
