Swilly Interview with Muzique Magazine
How did you come by your stage name?
Swilly is a nickname from an abbreviation to my name Steve Williams, however, we do wish we had done a search of the meaning of Swilly prior to the name LOL. I shall leave that for people to search themselves. Swilly consists of 4 full-time members. Carl Holtz – Drums, Kevin Campbell – lead guitar and genuine awesomeness, Doug Adair – Bass, backup vocals and music production, lastly myself Steve Williams vocals and rhythm guitar.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
All of us in the group started young and in school. Music isn’t a job it’s pure pleasure and pain all mixed into one. We all do it because we love every minute of it.
Swilly Interview with Muzique Magazine
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Wow, that’s a long list, but for sure we are influenced by ZZ top and anything blues-based. There are so many artists from all era’s including The Beatles, Free, Bob Seger, the Cult, Motley Crue, Nickleback, and Foo fighters.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
Well, it almost always involves Rum and other products of the biz. We have over 100 songs released at the moment so every song has its roots in something personal and if possible something fun.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
The music business requires an insane amount of work ethic. While Dire Straights may have pointed out in Money for Nothing that the public just sees the fun part the reality is a grueling schedule and a never-ending to-do list. So if you’re thinking of taking a stab at it get ready to work.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
Hell No… OMG, there are some amazing artists out there. Unless we are talking about liquor consumption I feel pretty confident there.
What are your plans for the near future?
Our biggest plans are to tour Europe as we were set to go in 2020 and well let’s not go down that rabbit hole as to why we did not go. (You can Suck it Covid)
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shoutouts?
Our shout-outs go to every person who actually supports Indie Bands like ourselves. There are so many people that make this possible it would be unfair to only name a few. Swilly is so blessed to have the support we do and we value every single one of them.
How can fans find you?
Most of our discovery has happened on Twitter. However, we are on most social media.
Twitter, Youtube, and everything else is Swilly4life
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Work hard, surround yourself with real people not yes men/women. You need the truth and it doesn’t have to be cruel but real. There are no shortcuts or easy buttons. Treat other people and especially artists how you would like to be treated. Lastly, music isn’t a competition between you and other artists its a competition for the attention of those interested in your music. Support your fellow artists whenever possible.
