Senior’s New Album Release Shares Emotional Life Stories
James William Awad, also known as Senior (his artist name), is a Canadian hip-hop/R&B artist who is incredibly talented at creating music that shares real-life stories, making his songs authentic and raw for listeners to connect to.
Music has brought people together for centuries, sharing stories and emotions through melodies strung together to form a message. Some of the most influential artists today are gifted at connecting with fans through music, so many listeners can relate to the music on a personal level.
James William Awad, also known as Senior (his artist name), is a Canadian hip-hop/R&B artist who is incredibly talented at creating music that shares real-life stories, making his songs authentic and raw for listeners to connect to. “I write all my songs based on real-life experiences and aim to create music that people can relate to on a personal level,” says Senior.
Although Senior has only recently begun making music, he released an album in 2020 that was extremely successful, and his new, highly anticipated album, Break & Tell, will be coming out on July 23rd, 2021. The track list will feature 14 new songs for music lovers to enjoy, and this will be Senior’s second released album, as he promised his fans to release one album yearly.
Senior draws inspiration from artists such as Drake, Lil Baby, and The Weeknd, and believes it would be fun to collaborate with many artists in the future. Pulling inspiration from both hip-hop and R&B artists led him to create his favorite song on the album, Video Game. “Video Game is a complex and fun song with a mix of EDM, hip-hop, and rap, which worked well,” says Senior.
Senior’s favorite part about creating his music is connecting with people through the feelings and stories shared through his songs. Senior explains, “All my lyrics are 99.99% real-life stories.” Listeners can feel the heart and soul he pours into each song because he allows himself to be vulnerable, exposing his emotions and life stories through the art of music. Many artists can share a message through songs, but not many can create music that lets people fully relate to what the artist is feeling. Senior believes his biggest challenge is “sharing a clear and understood message” for his listeners, something that he is getting better at over time.
Fans can anticipate an exciting performance from Senior at Rolling Loud this year in Miami and Portugal. These will be Senior’s first live performances, though there will be many more to come, as Senior plans to tour following his third album release in the future.
