RT-Projekt Interview with Muzique Magazine
How did you come by your stage name?
That’s easy: It started as a One-man-music-project by Rainer, his surname is Thanner and Projekt is the german spelling for the project, so this is RT-Projekt.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Rainer: For me, the beginning was in the 1980s, I was playing in a band and worked as a studio musician till the end of the 1990s. After a long break (family!) I felt my love for music growing again and so I built a home studio and started making music again.
Frank: I have always been a writer and I love music, but I never will be a good musician. So my dream was to write lyrics – and I did it for my own. In times of Corona, I started to look for musicians, looking for lyricists. And then I found a posting from Rainer, six months old, searching for somebody who likes to write lyrics. And that is how it started.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
We have found our own style, which explores modern pop and fluctuates between electro sounds and rock numbers, always spiced with a good dash from the 1980s.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
Rainer: With the experience of the first album (cycle of twenty) I knew, which songs I would like to do – and I knew, where I could find the vocalists. This is a special feature of RT-Projekt: We collaborate with a number of male and female singers! But the work with Frank was new: For some tracks, I sent him the music and he wrote the lyrics, and it worked the other way round as well: I got some songtexts and started to compose. So it is really a co-working concept.
Frank: … and therefore the album got the subtitle „the collaboration“.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Frank: we started our work without knowing anything about the other. From May to September 2020 the only way to communicate was e-mail and WhatsApp – no call, nothing. Impressive, that it worked! In September 2020 we met the first time – and we had written nearly the full album!
Rainer: Work ethic? The great plus is – we have the same setting for our work and this means: Working. Although both of us are in the main job, we are working straight together. There is no waiting for an answer longer than some hours.
The result: Next EP will come in Autumn, an 8-Track-Rock-Sci-Fi-Mini-Opera with a total playing time of 18 Minutes – Cycle of Itheria.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
Well, music is a question of taste. And is it possible at all to name the best musician? Our claim is, to produce really good stuff. In the end, there are some ideas for the dustbin and we develop only those, what we ourselves are convinced of. But if this is the best – we don’t know. Decide by yourself.
What are your plans for the near future?
In autumn we will release Cycle of Itheria, and in 2022 the next album will come, the cycle of twenty-two. It will be a new pop-rock album, a slice heavier and again with 14 or 15 brand new tracks. Half of them are already written.
