Liza Jane Interview with Muzique Magazine
Muzique Magazine had the pleasure of interviewing Liza Jane to find out more about her music process, her latest release ‘Carry On’, and what’s next!
When did you discover your love for music and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I discovered my love for music when I was two years old. I would put on a blue wig and dance around the house to “Cher Live in Las Vegas.” I always wore a Sleeping Beauty gown, one day my mother thought she heard classical music on the radio, she walked into the room, where the beautiful singing was coming from and realized that it was me singing. She said, “Liza is that you?” and I said, “Of course mommy, didn’t I tell you I came here to sing?”
That’s the day when my singing career began. I have enjoyed singing for as long as I could remember and have always wanted to pursue singing as my career. I have never changed my course of direction and I am fortunate to have a family that supports me. They are my village, and they know I came here to sing!
We love your new song, ‘Carry On, how did you come up with the concept?
The concept of ‘Carry On, comes from the days of all of us dealing with the pandemic that has swept our nation, even the world. There are so many tragedies from people dying from Covid, and the offshoots of that, and how it touches each and every one of us, even in my own family. We all have had to learn to “Carry On.” There is also the “Love” angle about carrying on after a relationship ends, part of the lyrics are, “You go this way, I go that way,” and then I give them the Liza Jane flick!

What comes first for you, the music, or the lyrics?
It depends on the song I write. Sometimes I hear the melody first, sing a melody, play it on piano or guitar, and then write lyrics. Other times, I write the lyrics and the melody comes after. When I write the music just flows to me and feels like another part of me takes over, the music comes from my soul, it is very honest and raw.
The song features Young Miller Tha Don, tell us about that collab?
Young Miller Tha Don and I were introduced by Gemini Muziq, the producer for this song. They are friends and Gemini played Young Miller my song. Young Miller loved it and wanted to be the featured artist. I am very glad how it worked out as it was a pleasure working with Young. He is a real gem and easy to work with plus he is a good performer too.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
My greatest challenges are that I am very hard on myself and sometimes I don’t take the step back to look at my accomplishments. I am always going, going, going but I need to work on still being in the moment and appreciating every victory even the small ones. I even wrote a song, “Called In the Moment” to let people hear this message. My singing inspires me to work very hard and I always strive to be better for every note, song, every music video. It is important to me, that people get the best of me all the time.
What are your plans for the near future?
My plan for the future is to keep writing more meaningful songs, create videos, and promote my music. Also, to start performing and touring with a band. I love performing to live audiences. I am looking forward to that!
