Interview with Singer and Songwriter “Kat Lincoln”
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I was four when I first heard MJ and Whitney Houston music at a family wedding. I knew from that day what I wanted to do.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
If you talking fashion…ha! I have no style lol My music may have way more style. All jokes aside I embrace most forms of music. Artists like Billy Holiday, Ella’s Fitzgerald, Betsy Smith, Erykah Badu to name a few.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
In March of 2020, I released my EP titled “Genesis”. The project was to symbolize the end of something and the beginning of another. It’s shocking how relevant it turned out to be considering the type of year we had in 2020.
As of January 8th, 2021 I released a new single called “Way Real”. The concept is simple and something we all need, love. With so much hate and families being torn apart I felt a need to show my love for the person going through these crazy times with me.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
My life is never shy of challenges starting from the 17-year war that uprooted me from Monrovia, Liberia. As a foreigner having to flee from a war-torn country I had to learn how to deal with my trauma. Music will always be a safe place for me.
My goal is to inspire, uplift, and continue my work with various nonprofit organizations that I’m evolved with. I feel my greatest attribute when it comes to my work ethic is knowing where I’ve been and the many others that need my help to materialize their dreams. My Music is inspirational because I believe I’m just a servant of humanity.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
Oh wow…lol, I don’t know how to answer that. I believe I am. I think over the years I’ve matured enough to know I’m not in competition with no one but me. I feel we all should focus on being our best selves.
What are your plans for the near future?
We have lots of projects in the works some are artist collaborations, brand partnerships, and look out for a new podcast I’m co-hosting set for a summer release.
