INDIE SPOT
Interview with Illinois based artist Heith Gruner
Where are you from?
Machesney Park, IL. Just north of Rockford, just south of the WI border.
When did you start making music and taking it seriously?
In 2003 I formed a metal band named “PowerRide” we had some local success, but nothing major. It was my first singing gig. I’ve loved it ever since.
How do you feel about the present state of the music industry?
No comment/be a cause I haven’t done the research to provide such an opinion.
Who influenced you to become an artist/band? Why?
Ozzy, Elvis, MJ, Hank Jr., Axl Rose. They are the best of the best and I always wanted to be like them and they were/are true “Rock Stars”. They were gods to me growing up.
Today’s music seems to be about collaborations with the “hottest” artist out. Whom would you want to work with on a project? And why?
Aaron Lewis. He is the hottest artist out. I have always felt like his music spoke to me. Since Staind had
their debut in 1999. He has been my favorite singer/songwriter ever since.
Do you feel that you are an artist/band or entertainer?
I am an Artist, I write music, I play music. I don’t get too crazy on stage. That’s what entertainers do. I feel the music more than portray it.
What are you currently working on and how can the people find you?
It is a collaboration project with James Carratt writing and producing. With many talented musicians
playing on each track.
Do you feel that the industry needs more artist like yourself?
I think there are plenty of artists like me in the industry now. Not your old school “rock stars”. That title doesn’t really exist any longer. Just hard working, nose to the grind artists that do that “leap of faith” and try to make a living and a name for themselves doing this wonderful thing that we love.
Who was your inspiration?
Many, many bands growing up. GNR, Metallica, Hank, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Prince… Just to name a few.
What is your ultimate goal at the end of your career?
To be happy, have fun, make others happy and to look back and say, “we did that”.
What suggestions do you have for another artist like yourself?
Never give up, stay focused and have fun.
How can potential fans find you?
Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, Facebook. Machesney Park, IL. Local bars in the area with my cover band “Dead Man’s Hand”.
