INDIE SPOT
Interview with American Shock-Rock Performer Demi Dahmer
How did you come by your stage name?
Like Manson has said in the past sex and murder sells. I have always been fascinated with horror and killer ads we’ll as horror movies and things that just bother and piss people off., I am a big Poe fan of his style and darkness, it really interested me in his writing, his poetry. But I would say music-wise Marilyn Manson, I think, was the first thing that lured me in.
And it was more about the lyricism than even the idea of being able to play an instrument – although, in middle school, I started taking drum lessons. My dad got me this classic pearl set, so I was originally a drum major. I was always more interested in beat-driven music. Before I write any music I mediate and – I spend about 3 hours listening to music.
That’s my sort of meditation before I go do anything. It really only takes me about 15-30 minutes to physically get ready. My playlist is quite a strange range of different things. Anywhere from Gwar to Johnny Cash and everywhere in between.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Why would anyone want to be a Rockstar? The Money and The Drugs
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
Marilyn Manson, Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Rob zombie
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
I read the news, look up serial killers and their stories, I’m a big fan of Poe. I read a lot and like to meditate. I also have a hard time sleeping so I believe mixing all this together with some sleep deprivation gives me my lyrical concepts.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
Getting over my depression and the motivation to get out of bed. The depression I would say is my greatest challenge with a mix of my anxiety. I literally have to fight it and force myself to get up.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
I don’t think anyone can be the best. There will always be someone better than you.
What are your plans for the near future?
I’d like to write and direct a movie with Marilyn Manson that I’m not in. I’d like to get back to writing more, I’d like to take from one of my great inspirations, Stephen King, to tell my stories. As anyone who knows me knows, I love to tell my stories. And I like writing. So it’s about finding the time to and getting over my depression.
How can fans find you?
They can find me under their pillow at night.
What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?
There are many obstacles and attractions in this big fucked up distortion of reality we are living in today. Only you can set your own path and make your own decisions as for everything else. Sit back relax and enjoy the show.
