INDIE SPOT
Exclusive interview with Truse
How did you come by your stage?
My artist’s name Truse is a comment on creating peace through community, music, and cooperation. A truce between warring tribes, a truce between friends and family, and truce within.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
I have been playing guitar since I was 12. I got into hip hop music at age 15 with the amazing sounds of Wu-tang, Mobb Deep, Naz, AZ, and many other unbelievably talented musicians. I put this song out on September 1st and got good reviews so I decided to make a video. I want to touch people that resonate with the message of peace.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I accredit my sense of style to Eckhart Tolle, the spiritual author. He taught me how to contact that place of creativity. That place inside where the music flows. I also accredit the musical style I have to RZA and Wu-Tang, Lupe Fiasco, Naz, Prodigy, Eminem, Dave Matthews, The Beatles, RATM, The Roots, and many others
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
The Final Mystical Saga is a conscious song about the strife of war, the destruction humans have brought upon ourselves for no good reason, the pain we cause each other through fighting and warring, through violence and anger. All energies we can transform into peace if we only knew how…
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
I suffered from a very long depression. It was so bad that I thought I’d never get out of it, my parents cried themselves to sleep for years the state I was in. But looking back now I realize it was a metamorphosis. I was being transformed from an ego to a spiritual person. I hope if you are going through a depression or a deep loss that you find you way out or at least a glimmer of hope in your dark times, by realizing there is another dimension to your pain.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?
This song is dedicated to my daughter, Sadie Jane…May you stay the way you are forever…I love you with all my heart, my sweet angel…
A special thanks to Melanie and Marina, for all their love and support throughout the years. To my Boddhisatva of a father who saved my life and always believed in me. My angel of a mom who loves and loves. My solid brother who always stuck by me. And a special mention to my best brother who always believed in me, stuck by me through all the bullshit, and is a true inspiration. DG, you are my brother for life. I love you with my heart.
Another special thanks to Barak for all the ups and downs over the decades of friendship from the age of 5. And over the past 6 years. Brother, you are a true inspiration to me.
How can fans find you?
