Exclusive Interview with Singer and Songwriter “Mel Maryns”

How did you come by your stage name?

My real name is Melissa Marins, but since I was little everyone used to call me “Mel” as a nickname all the time. So I decided to change a little bit my second name by adding a “y” to “Marins” and it turned out to “Mel Maryns” which I love it and it’s so cool.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

I’ve been singing since I was a little kid, my dad used to play guitar, and there was always music in the house, we used to always sing together, and I always had this really good feeling when I used to sing as if that was my destiny.

Knowing that, I started writing my own original songs, I learned how to play the piano by teaching myself and watching YouTube videos and after a while, I started singing on the streets and I just knew that singing was my passion and it felt like it was meant to be.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

To myself, I’m a really creative person and I like to design my clothes, my makeup, my hair. I love fashion and the fact that you can put your personality into clothes is really cool.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

So, I’ve been working on a lot of singles at the moment, and every single one of my songs is based on real-life stories that I’ve experienced. And I just want to share my music with the world and tell my story and inspire people!

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

One of my greatest challenges at the moment is to release a new single every month till the end of the year! My greatest attribute is that I don’t give up easily, I will try my best to achieve my goals and never give up. I’m always trying to do my best when it comes to my music.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

If you are not the best in what you do, no matter what is your profession if you don’t give it all why even start? So yes, I try to be my best in everything that I do. After all, it’s what I love to do, singing. Even though I’m only 17 I know I still have a lot to learn so, I practice every day, practice makes perfect!

What are your plans for the near future?

I’m planning on releasing a new single every month till the end of the year. It’s a challenge, but I know I’ll make it! I can’t wait for everyone to hear my music. And hopefully, my next move will be making an album.

What suggestions do you have for other artist like yourself?

One thing I know for sure, it might sound cliché but it’s the truth “never give up” You have to work hard to achieve your dreams. Practice all the time, practice makes perfect. I believe in you. You can do this. Never give up.
