Kimo Jeepaz talks about his craft, current project and more

How did you come by your stage name?

My given name is Okeme, in Jamaica, we are the best at nicknames after a few tries at Keems, Kee, Oh-KemHe even Okreshia! Kimo finally stuck and Jeepaz comes from the entertainment group I’m affiliated with.

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

Growing up I always loved singing, I use to be a chatterbox and got told to keep my mouth shut so singing was a form of expression that brought liberty to my spirit. Anything that brings me this much joy has to be something I stick with for life and that’s where the choice came from.

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I really like 2pac and kendrick lamar so perhaps those two.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

The concept “Do What I Like” comes from wanting to be rich enough to do what I want when I want and with who I want! As I’m pursuing that I hope others are inspired to go after their own personal freedom.

What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?

My greatest challenges are being misunderstood because of my mindset, not much bothers me being from a very poor community in Jamaica till 18 and now living in the UK so learning how to have more empathy towards people with first world problems.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I am the greatest!

What are your plans for the near future?

To keep releases music that hopefully finds its way to the hearts of a few more listeners so we can connect and have a moshpit in a field somewhere.
