Interview upcoming artist Zhenna

How did you come by your stage name?

My name is my real name! In my native language, Spanish, it is quite complicated to write it! People usually do not know how to pronounce it or spell it. I always complained with my Dad about my name, why did you make it so complicated?? I always said to him. Today, I am thankful!

When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?

Since I was a child I enjoyed singing. However I studied business and accounting and singing for me was just a hobby until my dad passed in 2017 and I need desperately getting out of a terrible depression. I started attending vocal training lessons with a good and friendly and then met my producer and good friend Dennis García. I wanted to write a song and Dennis was the perfect match for doing it!

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

I grew up listening to salsa. When I was a child and my parents did not have anyone who babysits, I went together with a salsa club in the district of Chorrillos in Lima – Perú. I stayed sitting on the table, ate and they went to the dance floor for dancing salsa until they got exhausted. I enjoyed that time very much, I loved watching my parents dancing and felt the drums of Latin music.

When I was 9 years old Reggaeton started to become famous with pioneer “El General” from Panamá and other singers like el Chombo. I immediately recognized that spicy flavor of the drums that characterizes salsa and other Latin beats. This time those beats sounded modern and absolutely joyful! When my brother came to visit at that time he brought with him the Reggaeton highlights of the week.

He taught me a lot about music, and as a Reggae listener was also a big influencer in my music preferences. I always try to give a bit of this Caribbean flavor to my songs, even if I am born on the other side of the Caribe.

On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?

Well, I love Reggaeton! It is a vibrant, happy, and full of life music genre. I wanted to create music that brings happiness to the people. Music can elevate the frequency levels of our energy and vibration, can turn our mood in sad, melancholic, or happy, and enthusiastic.

This last is what I wanted to share with the world and also share my experience as a woman. Just tell me a girl who has not fallen in love with a guy and this one suddenly disappeared? Or told her: we are just only friends? I think this situation is more common than we think. Many experiences, personal and of close friends inspired the lyrics.

Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?

I do my best, that I can tell! I am also constantly learning and improving myself.

What are your plans for the near future?

Continuing writing music, and singing. Writing is for me a sort of medicine!

Is there anyone you’d like to thank, any shout outs?

Well, my friend Dennis García. This is the first time he writes Reggaetón. He is a well-known musician in my country, with years of experience in Rock and Indie, also famous for writing soundtracks for movies and now he is creating Reggaetón with me.

Who would have ever thought that would be possible! He is very eager and enjoying this experience very much. Starting this project and leaving our comfort zone with it has brought us only satisfaction.

How can fans find you?
