Counterbalance Band exclusive interview with Muzique Magazine
Band members of Counterbalance are Koy Kresta (Lead Singer/Guitar), James Espericueta (Lead Guitar), Courtney Grigsby (Drums), Christian McLain (Bass).
How did you come by your band name?
When we first formed “Counterbalance,” we soon realized that we all had largely different influences for the sound that we create and our individual styles. So, we used the name “Counterbalance” to represent our differences.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
We all started playing music at very young ages and saw playing professionally as something difficult to accomplish, but over the years have constantly strived to make it happen.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
That’s a hard one. While we do draw from some outside influences, most of our sound has originated from working with each other and our styles mixing together.
On your current project, how did you come up with the concept?
We originally intended to release an EP which turned into a full-length album. Most of the songs were written during a transitional period in each of our lives. We worked our best to capture the emotion and struggles we were each facing and project it into our craft.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
The band has never lived in the same town since its formation. Even though that has caused a lot of complications, we have all been able to put in whatever it took and managed to produce a record that expresses who we are and what we’re about.
Are you the best at what you do in your opinion?
We are the best at what WE do.
What are your plans for the near future?
Survive the pandemic. After that, we hope to go on tour and then keep putting out music.
