Interview with Canadian Based DJ Producer Phoenix Lord
How did you come by your stage name?
My favorite animal is the eagle and I have always loved legends. The phoenix looks a lot like the eagle and it’s a legend that comes from the Middle East. Moreover, this bird rises from its ashes and I believe that we are all humans with infinite possibilities and that we can rise from our ashes to aspire to live a better life in a better world.
When did you discover your love for your craft and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in it?
Music has always taken a huge place in my life. When I was younger, my parents introduced me to all kinds of music styles. I played guitar in a band and took percussion lessons. Everything has been created at a given moment in life, whatever our beliefs, and therefore, we are ourselves, creators, so for me, the music is my way of creating, externalizing who I am and, as far as possible, to make a change in people’s lives and in the society by passing messages through my creations.
To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?
I like to stand out and be unique. My style of music is very orchestral and theatrical. I like mixing real instruments with electronic music. I believe that I am able to bring out what I have to externalize through my music and make people feel emotions.
I like to stand out and be unique. I take my inspiration fantastic movies, tales and legends of different countries, especially the Middle East, but also in the Celtic countries, as for my song “Banshee”, a Scottish legend. Some artists who use fantasy in their shows inspire me too.
I am also inspired by nature because it speaks to us and if we would listen to it carefully, the world could feel much better. I greatly admire the producer Savant who explores several styles and sounds and has a unique universe that inspires me. I also like KSHMR and Offer Nissim a lot.
On your upcoming project, how did you come up with the concept?
At the moment, I’m working on a remake of a 90’s Eurodance classic by Canadian Juno awarded singer and songwriter by the name of Emjay. The song is called “Flying to the Moon” and has a great message about the society we are living in. It’s a big challenge because I have to make it sound more today and much slower than the original.
It will reflect my theatrical style and my talent as a musician and arranger. I leave a lot of room for the vocals so that people can grasp the meaning of the words. I can’t wait to release it to the world. It’s coming this summer.
What are some of your greatest challenges, and what is your greatest attribute when it comes to your work ethic?
My biggest challenge is to push myself every day to reach my goals and dreams and to inspire others. In my way of working, I always see the connection between what is happening outside and inside of me.
I learned that everything happens for a reason and that everything we need is inside of us, so we have to work on ourselves to get the best and enjoy life to the fullest. Anything is possible if we believe in it, in us. It’s exactly what my song “I Believe” with American singer Robin S, is all about.
