My Own Little World Records proudly announces the release of The Great Escape, the long awaited solo debut album from John Van Ness. The Great Escape is an eclectic, 13 song collection of original compositions that seamlessly fuses neo-soul/RnB, pop, rock and Jazz. The first single is heart-fealt, RnB/Neo-soul ballad, Ooh No (Feat. Tauree)
“I’m extremely proud to be releasing this record, after so many years,” said John. “It has literally been in the works for over 10 years.” As John explained, there were several stops and starts to this project. The Great Escape was shelved for months at time with while he produced projects for other MOLWR artists, .There was also a finished album that was completely scratched because it didn’t meet the standards that MOLWR established with its previous releases..
Although always a song-writer first, the fact that guitar is John’ s primary instrument is quite evident on The Great Escape. Whether it be the warm jazzy tones on tracks like February and Some Kind of Light, the Hendrix-esq lead/rhythm styling heard on For Love and Only Want You to Dance or the strait-forward rock n’ roll approach to I Can’t Hide and Shining, The Great Escape presents a plethora of great guitar moments.
The pursuit of love, happiness and acceptance is the glue that binds the songs on The Great Escape. The album Features guest vocal performances from up-and-coming RnB Star Tauree (I Can’t Hide, Ooh No, February) and long-time collaborator/brother Joshua Van Ness (Another Love Song, which also include Joshua on guitar and drums). Joshua also plays drums February and The Great Escape (title track).
