It has only been a few weeks since the 22-year-old Dima Yavorskyy released his single “Intentions,” and the track is already on its way to becoming the artist’s top-performing song on Spotify. Tapping into creativity has allowed him to experiment with different styles and deliver powerful storytelling through his music.
From what seems to be a chill rap track at first, there is a lot to take away from the track’s lyrical composition. In the first verse, Dima Yavorskyy creates an atmosphere filled with sexual tension as he raps, “Make me choose between the black and the red dress but you know my preference, take it off of you later tonight so it won’t make a difference.” This verse has arguably become one of the most popular parts of the song, especially with the snippet Dima posted on social media.
The most impressive part of the performance, however, is the artistic emotion that Dima reveals in the hook. “Tell me your intentions baby, Show me if you ride or die,” the artist sings, mixed with layers of unique tonality. The artist has implemented a structure of combining rap verses with melodic hooks since his “Maze” debut earlier this year.
In the second verse, Dima Yavorskyy makes a reference to the popular Netflix show; Too Hot to Handle. The artist raps, “Too hot to handle, we’d lose all $100k, ride or die for you but I just need you to stay” as he refers to the sexual tension going on between couples in the show.
The powerful storytelling behind “Intentions” portrays Dima as a romantic who wouldn’t mind losing all of the prize money under the sheets as long as his partner’s intentions are pure.
The new single leaves listeners wondering where Dima Yavorskyy finds his inspiration. Perhaps it’s his influential upbringing that makes his style stand out. However, it’s not a doubt that whatever may be the spark of his creativity allows him to continue developing a distinct identity as an artist.
